We
are currently in the final stages of building our first health and
education centre at
Terra da Paz, on the bank of the Rio Negro. The beautiful piece of land
forms
the end part of an island that is situated 3 hours from the city of
Manaus by
large boat or 1 hour by speed boat. There are numerous small
communities
in this area with many needs.
The
centre will be a place where the communities and leaders can gather
together, a
facility offering further education, training on special needs, new
life skills
and Christian education.
The
centre is a 9 sided two story building, spanning 32 metres across and
has a
mezzanine level serving 14 en-suite bedrooms. The ground floor is laid
out as a
large open area for meetings and there are areas for small gatherings
at the
front. There will be an office, pharmacy and 4 medical rooms offering
regular clinics.
Outside
we will have a covered area that will accommodate 200-300 people to eat
with an
open plan kitchen. Laundry facilities are located close by and an
exhibition
area will be constructed for the ancient pots discovered on the land.
The centre will also
be used
to accommodate mission trips enabling our teams to stay in the jungle
amongst
the villages and people.
This is by far the
most
ambitious project to date and we are seeking as much support as
possible.
